Italy 2013 – Cbr600rr Cup round 2 race report

Hi guys,
Valellunga is a track with many great memories for me and this weekend it played host to the second round of the cbr 600 cup. Since my last race weekend I had squeezed in lots of travelling and track time, riding 3 days in Valencia, Spain, with Simon Crafar and a day testing at Misano where we made some positive changes to the set-up of the bike.
The weekend started well with the two 25 min practise sessions on Friday going to plan despite really windy conditions making some parts of the track really difficult, especially the sixth gear corner off the front straight! The strong engine of my bike was a huge help in  these conditions shown as I was always faster through the speed traps.
Saturday first qualifying session saw me in down the timesheets but with encouragement from pit wall I put in two good laps as the last two laps of the session and ended in 15th. We managed to better my time again in the second qualifying but remained in 15th position.
The 12 lap race on Sunday got off to a busy start but I settled into 13th position early and remained there for the rest of the race – just not able to catch two riders just ahead of me. My fastest lap time dropped by one second which was really positive.
The next race is at Imola in less than two weeks’ time so I am currently trying to prepare for that as best as possible.

Thanks to everyone for the amazing support!
