2013 Italy – Round 3 Cbr600rr Cup race report

Kia ora everyone,

This weekend just been was the third round of the cbr600 Cup held at Misano racetrack on the Adriatic coast of Italy.

The two practise sessions held in scorching temperatures on Friday went well. Tis weather continued for the rest of the weekend and on Saturday we made some changes to the bike heading in the right direction, allowing me to pick up a lot of pace. We were all surprised I was in 15th place on the grid as my lap time of 1.45.0 is very good at the Misano circuit; this shows just how strong the competition in this class is.

The race on Sunday got off to a great start for me and I was in 10th position. Unfortunately mid race someone’s bike blew right in front of me dropping oil that I couldn’t avoid and I went down hard along with the 4 other bikes in the group I was in.  The race was red flagged and I managed to ride the bike back to the pits but it was badly damaged so the team decided not to let me join the restarted race for safety reasons. This was a wise move also because I had crashed at around 200km/r and certainly was not feeling 100percent. At times like this you really appreciate top quality gear – My Xlite helmet is ruined but did a fantastic job of protecting my head, and my Sidi boots still look like new.

Obviously it was a shame to end another good weekend with another DNF on the results tally. I have to remember that I am improving a lot and eventually luck will swing in our direction and the results will come.

We now have a wee break for 3 weeks until returning to Misano once again. Thanks everyone for the amazing support, especially my family and uncle geoff who are always still there supporting in these tough times.

Avalon.
